How do you sell stuff for currency?
« on: April 23, 2011, 03:30:05 am »

I can't figure out how to sell loot for money. If I press the buttons to offer/demand money, the shopkeeper accepts the deal but then it always says he "owes me" the money, even though there's always a chest full of coins right there in the shop. If I help myself to the coins first, in order to "buy" them, they don't show up in the shop inventory. Also, if a shopkeeper owes me money, I exit the trade screen and come back in suddenly he thinks he doesn't owe me anything any more. So how exactly do I sell my stuff and actually get money?

The stuff you've sold is now dropped in the floor and $notyoursanymore$.  Look around for coins that aren't $coins$.

A better idea is to trade for some expensive stuff (platinum crafts, rare gems etc.) because coins only work in the same civilization you've bought them from, and there's no Stock Exchange Market :).

For other civilizations those coins will be just very small pieces of copper/silver/gold, so barely worth anything.

Is there a way to stack coins of the same civ?

I have like 18 silver coins of the same civ that I have picked up and they are making my inventory a mess because they are in stacks of 1.

Well, not a traditional "press this button to stack all identical items" button, but you could go to a store and buy something with those 18 coins. Then sell the item back and your money should be stacked for you.

To be fair, in those times a coin was exactly worth its material value. So a copper piece would be worth 1 copper piece even if it is only the material value.

But unless you recognise the coin's providence, you can't be particularly sure that it's actually the quality of copper it pretends to be.  (And, also to be fair, often not even then.  But you had at least a strong inkling.)

I don't know how it was in "those times" when there were dwarves, elves and dragons (:P), but in DF there's no way to mod it, so we have to take it for granted as a part of the culture/setting.
