This offer has been around forever and a day, almost since the orange box came out.  It's basically just a demo, a demo, a demo and a tech demo.

Technically HL2:DM is the multiplayer component of HL2, which isn't anywhere near as much fun as, say, TF2 or [any other decent multiplayer game ever].

Modders have done some great things with HL2:DM but it still wasn't enough.

Like Alien Swarm it just wasn't given enough love by Valve and quickly died. Which seemed like a waste to me because a couple really good free games would really push more people into the steam market.

I'd like to state that these free offers do not contain the source sdk which means you cannot source play mods.
