Linking machines together?
« on: April 27, 2011, 11:04:46 pm »

Okay haven't used a windmill or a gear assembly before so looking for some advice. I've got a walled off area next to a river and I want to stick a windmill on top of the bottom right corner of the wall with a gear assembly under it, transfer power to an adjacent pump and the whole set up needs an on/off switch so I can refill my water reservoir when I need to and not have a constant flow. The pump pushes water through a fortification (does that work?) and then falls into my water tank. I seal the whole thing off with I'm not sure which tile of the pump the gear assembly needs to be next to, does that matter?

Here's a crude drawing! Please point out anything I've got wrong.

w = wall
O = hole
F = Fortification
G = Gear assembly
P = Pump facing upwards

X = floor
M = windmill (centre tile under windmill is not paved with a floor so it can transfer power to the assembly below)

No idea if the fortification will work, but it sounds like it should.

As for the windmill move it one tile to the right and put a gear under it.  Link the original gear to a lever, since a disconnected (turned off) gear will deconstruct anything hanging on it, such as a windmill.

Also I'm not certain if you can connect the gear to the pump there.  If you can't you'll have to connect it from above.  As I said though, not certain.
