Slightly odd Sea Nettle behaviour (33F)
« on: December 18, 2007, 09:18:00 am »

Being in an experimental mood, I constructed a wall along the beach at the front of my coastal fortress.  Satisfied that such a thing will indeed stop waves in their tracks, I went back to other projects within the fortress.

It was then that I noticed this little guy hanging out on top of one of the walls...

And some of his buddies one z-level below...

(Apologies for the poor compression on the JPEGs.  Nothing other than MS Paint on the computer I'm using at the moment.)

So far as I can see, the sea nettles appear to be hatching some sort of sinister plot to infiltrate my fortress by way of climbing over my coastal defenses.  That, and they seem worryingly unfazed by being on land for protracted periods.

Anyone else experiencing this bug?

They are supposed to be able to beach themselves, but do they still move around and fail to die after they do that?  I don't think I finished that stuff up.

They flop around for quite a long time.  I think this particular group hung around  - still mobile - for around a season before vanishing without a trace.  Shortly afterwards, another bunch of them beached themselves a screen further along the coast and ambled around and sunbathed just like the other group.

Further to the wall thing, I watched them (the first group) for a while afterwards to make sure one of them hadn't just climbed the ramp and got onto the wall that way, but they all were quite happily hopping up and down the walls as though they weren't there.

I have a constructed wall and fortifications with lungfish around it. They are able to ignore the fortifications, I haven't seen any go through a wall yet, but this may just be that they're small enough to get through the arrow slits

Once upon a time, putting some decorative touches on the top floor of my kickass tower, I saw a lungfish blink into existence, somewhere near the upper z-levels. It wasn't on screen long enough for me to [k] it, but I did manage to identify it by the splattered lungfish corpse at the foot of the tower.

Then my world inflate errored and I trashed it.

Any whales or petunias were conspicuously absent.

I will mod in plastic as a resource.  I will then tweak the Dwarven civ entry so that coins are only made out of plastic, and are called "credit cards".
I will make dwarves purchase things with bushels of credit cards.  It will be a mockery of both systems.
It will be stupid.  But it will be gloriously stupid.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.
