Fallout NV was empathetically not Fallout 3.5 in my book.  Fallout 3 completely failed to capture the feel of the fallout universe and was best when it was doing things completely unrelated to the existing lore.  Fallout NV I felt did a pretty good job on continuity and the factions felt like the factions from before.

Take the BoS for instance.
In Fallout 1 they are isolationist pricks who will grudgingly accept you if you are useful enough
In Fallout 2 they are isolationist pricks who have expanded a bit and will grudgingly help you because the big bad evil guy is gonna screw over everyone
In Fallout NV they are isolationist pricks who are suffering an existiential crises after getting their asses handed to them
In Fallout 3 they are knights in shining armor who would travel 2000 miles in order to play neighborhood watch to a bunch of run down buildings where barely anybody lives.
One of these things is not like the others...

Fallout 1 and 2 were never perfect.  They had their inconstancies and illogical moments too.  But they had a great feeling and great fights for survival.  Their universe was always a bit silly but it was a reflection of a logical one; after the great disaster, people try to survive and rebuild.  NV isn't perfect either, but I feel that it fits the bill.

Top 50? Not really, no. My mod list at the moment includes (this is not everything, just what I remember off the top of the head while not being at my computer):

FOOK NV (.50 adds some more nice things; brings back a bunch of the Fallout 3 crafted weapons to find in various places, which is a big reason why I have it)
More Perks (Along with FOOK's NVSE option for a perk every level; a multitude of ways to create a character differently)
Project Nevada (The revamp to implants, along with useful things like a Grenade key, Sprint and Bullet Time that use your AP bar, etc)
WME (Speaks for itself; gun mods are nice)
Realistic Headshots (because shooting someone in the head with a full clip and them not dying is annoying)

And a couple others that I can't remember at the moment.

BoS rant

If you paid attention, you would have known that the Fallout 3 Brotherhood was that way because of their leadership, who ended up becoming a splinter group (referenced by some New Vegas NPC's) and they definitely weren't the Brotherhood Allstars, if the Outcasts were to be believed. I do agree with you about it though; the major change in giving old IP to a new team didn't have quite the same feel to it.

Yes, they explained the reason why the BoS was entirely different in DC.  But the explanation A) sucked and B) was completely unnecessary.  Why did they bother calling them the BoS at all if they were going to completely change the character?  Couldn't they have just thought up a new faction rather then trying to cram the BoS into a role they were never meant to serve?
