Any changes in map generation? [176_38a]
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:38:00 pm »

[I'm curious if there are enough changes in map generation to merit rolling out a new world for fortressing/adventuring.]
I posted this before I checked the wiki. I'll just be moving along...

Feel free to post experiences from roll-over saves here.

I gotta say, I am loving the roiling, bubbly magma in my roll-over save. Does that happen all the time? And the creeping eruptions?

Regional prospector seems to work, so i guess it hasn't changed too much.

Caves are larger and much less populatated, I think. Fewer GCS, that'a for sure.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Most caves are smaller, though a few are larger than ever and more spread out.  And yeah, way fewer giant cave spiders.  When I had it export all 300 cave sizes and their populations, there were still a few very small caves with 3 to 4 spiders, but that's just your luck.

The first map I generated last night gave me an awesome spot with a small cave/chasm right next to a volcano, chock full of everything from native gold to hematite to giant cave swallowmen to tigereye (maybe just my first time getting really lucky at site selection). This, I like.

And, for the record, I am really enamored with the idea of having a few random volcanoes randomly erupt, or creep magma. It was a really neat effect on the saves I moved over. Maybe not so much in Dwarf Mode, but it'd make a great demon fight setting in Adventure mode.
