Can you still not channel under a raised bridge ?
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:57:17 pm »

I've only recently started replaying DF since the 40d version, trying to learn all the new stuff, and I seem to remember that once I built a bridge on land, then raised it, I couldn't channel that exposed ground unless I did it before placing the bridge.  Is it still that way in the latest version?  I figured I'd get a quicker answer here than testing it out in-game.

AFAIK, yes... haven't tested recently, though.

I seem to remember having big problems trying to do this in .31.18, having to tear the bridge up, and retry, causing my Dwarves to be cut off from the outside for a few months.  My miner outside nearly starved to death and I had to remove a section of wall from beneath the moat I was creating.

The whole fort almost drowned, and my foodstocks were ruined.

So unless it's changed since .31.18 no.

All the more reason to plan ahead!

I like fortresses because they are still underground.
