Does leather robe deflection give armor user skill?
« on: April 23, 2011, 08:55:10 am »

So I made a new world. Finally, I can make robes. So, if something is deflected by a leather robe, does the dwarf get armor user skill?

Short answer: Yes
slightly longer answer: Yes, and this is also a reason why training rooms are so effective, even for new recruits without any armor of their own.

Danger rooms were effective because they hit multiple times, but did little damage, if any. If the recruit only had clothes and survived, they wouldn't gain armor user, but would be legendary wrestler and stuff afaik.

They do give armor user up to a point in training, after which they are able to block everything, preventing them from taking hits and thus gaining armor user. Mine usually get about proficient AU before they start blocking everything. Sparring, however, should bring that skill up higher.

tl;dr: Robes taking hits = armor user xp
