Can you attach a support to the sky?

I believe that you can, but it will only support things directly below it.
I've heard this from other forumgoers, not tried it myself, so don't take just my word.

I've found two threads that suggest that the problem FuzzyZergling says exists actually does exist, but neither of them quote the original source of the information. Urist da Vinci, in the second thread, does say that in 40d a cast-obsidian block on the top z-level levitated itself, but that he couldn't hang things off it. I'd suggest applying SCIENCE! to this problem, and report back to us.

I think you're supposed to do this:

ceiling
x <-support
floor
x <-another support
the rest of the flying fortress
