Hey If you have a few minutes, could you help with the defense grid part of the portal 2 arg?

The current requirements change each time someone who matches the requirements does the signup, so check back periodically in game. The current requirements are listed in the results of the signup if you do not match them.

The Escapist has a pretty good, short article on the basics. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108965-Portals-GlaDOS-Invades-Steam-With-Potato-Related-ARG

Essentially on April 1st there was a sale for a group of indie games they called the Potato Sack. Apparently in each of these games (Defense Grid was one of them) clues were inserted for the community to find. Defense Grid's requires specific community members to "register" (no actual registration for anything involved) in an in-game console before something is unlocked. That's what this is about. (Oh and ARG stands for Alternate Reality Game, for those in the dark)

Here's a wiki that's keeping track of everything: http://valvearg.com/wiki/Valve_ARG_Wiki  It gets a little bogged down, so try again if it doesn't load the first time.

Edit: Also, I wasn't what they were looking for, but apparently one of my 3 friends who own the game is. I've asked one, one of them is a B12er but I don't know who (The Scout on Steam)apparently he's The Scout here too :P, and I'm not really in contact with the third, so I hope it's not them.

Edit 2: oh apparently you don't have to own the game to be "eligible." That's unfortunate.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I'm trying to redownload it right now.

Just letting people know: there's a countdown on aperturescience.com and it expires in less than 8 hours. Most people aware of the ARG are hoping for an early Portal 2 release.

They've updated the text to something that sounds like: the game won't pre-release at the end of countdown, but one more challenge will unlock, and THAT will release the game early

Ooooh... thanks for the updates. I've been telling myself I should keep up to date on this, but kept forgetting to bookmark the wiki. Gotta make sure I've got it open today so I can follow what's happening after the countdown!

Tempted to agree with Soul, partially because I want it tomorrow and partially because the North-American-timezone-centric part of me says that if we can make THIS much progress in 4 and a half hours while people are at work or school, I can only imagine how fast it's going to go once people have free time.

The only problem is that amnesia and killing floor might get the list stuck for quite a while. Same goes for the ball and defense grid.

The numbers there aren't only ARG-nerds, so a bunch of people will keep on playing the game they want to play after they're filled up.

How do these CPUs increase anyways? By people buying the game, or scoring points in the game?

Running the game.

They don't increase, they only show how many people are playing a game at any given moment.
