No seeds at startup

This could be a feature or a bug, but my dwarven civilization offers no plants, seeds and worst of all, no alcohol at startup. None. Not that I'm complaining- this could be a challenge. Better get skill up on Herbalism.

EDIT: Also, spider silk is placed under Cloth (Plant)

EDIT #2: Oh geez, no wood either!! Who are these people?!?

It's a feature. Some civilizations don't have access to certain items.


Spider silk under Plant Cloth? Now I think that's a bug. Try a different civilization. You just got unlucky.

Wood might be explained by the biomes near that civ's fortresses, but they should always get underground plants (since all mountain squares should get subterranean plants).  I'll have to look into it.  I'm also getting the cloth/plant error for silk, so that should be a simple typo somewhere.

as of 33g I'm having a similiar problem, no seeds at start up, and none come via caravan.  I've tried flooding some underground areas to see if they spontaniously generate that way, but no luck so far (been about a full dwarven year since the initial moistening)
