Can't build with limestone?

Hi... I have a fortress in a fairly standard area, but mostly limestone.  Plenty of limestone blocks dug out, etc.

But I can only  build with wood, and when I try to use the mason, he says "construction cancelled: needs non-economic rock"

I'm confused - limestone, according to wikipedia at least, is used quite a lot as a building material.  I have plenty of wood, but this is rather game crippling.  I had a previous fortress with Grabbo as the main stone, and that worked fine.

Limestone is used in making steel bars and pig iron bars, so you need to allow it for other uses. Just hit z and go over to stones and look for Limestone, then hit enter and that should allow it for other uses.
