I just figured out that, generating a map with special parameters, it is actually possible to hide all of the worldgen history so that one is able to actually travel around and explore - just like in the old days when I started playing! I find it insanely fun discovering the history of the world this way, and it gives a nice sense of achievement. In addition, it keeps all information in Legends mode relevant to what you experienced in your adventures, which is kind of neat.

So, does anyone else play DF this way?

I did once. I never did again as the worldgen kept on crashing when I had it on.

Strange. I had one worldgen crash in the current version, and that was with revealed history. I did, however enable culling irrelevant historical figures as well, so maybe that has something to do with it?

I did it once, and than I played DF and all of my statues did not have any history on it :S
At least you can change it ingame but it was pretty annoying

While modding I deffinitely have history ON, since otherwise how can I tell how my civs are doing.

Once settling down to play, I turn it off and jiggle the history seed by one, just to keep me on my own toes.
