Caged animals
« on: April 10, 2011, 03:20:02 pm »

Hi,
How do i get animals out of the cages they are in? Do i have to attach a lever to it, and open it that way?
I bought some animals from the elves, hoping to breed them in my fortress, for an endless supply of meat, but they seem to be in cages.

You can hook up a lever, and pull it, or assign them to a pasture.

Aaaah assign to pasture was the key.
Thanks. I was wondering why no animals were at my pasture zone.

You don't need a lever to get animals out of cages, even without pastures. Just build the cage - like you'd do if you were going to hook up a lever to it - 'q'uery it, and remove the animal from the list of assigned creatures.

You do have to use a lever to get dwarves out of cages, though.

Dying (ceasing to be alive) is also not a Moodable skill. Even totally unskilled Dwarves seem to do it correctly.
