As a matter of principle Fraps can only record stuff if the programm/game uses DirectX or OpenGl.

€: Even though i don't fully understand the technical details you should try the DF-legacy version with fraps

Set the rendermode to Standard in init.txt, instead of 2D.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

@Thief: i can't find rendermode in init.txt

@Orikson: what Are the differences between sdl and legacy?
I can't play the original game and i love tilesets. Do they work in the "legacy" game?

It's PRINT_MODE.

Thief's right. Forget about the legacy stuff.

The important line he means is called [PRINT_MODE:STANDARD]. I just tested it FRAPS and i runs just fine.

p.s. Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian!

Aside from a couple typos your english is better than many americans :)

Welcome here and thanks for taking the time to teach others how to play Dwarf Fortress.

I'm american myself--a lot of us are pretty bad with the English language. It's just forum laziness most of the time so I don't mind. But when people misuse there \ their \ they're, lay \ lie, to \ too, and all those really easy important bits, it just conjures this guy in my head:

As a side note, this also fixed the Steam overlay not working after updating to 31.25 finally.  Probably only bad thing I did notice though is that apparently standard mode doesn't support the TT fonts (buggy as they may be still.)
