drinking in the dining room?
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:16:11 pm »

Is this possible?
No matter how many flasks or goblets i make, these little buggers just hang out on their feet in the drink stockpile to get hammered.
Both the act of carrying multiple flasks, flagons, and misc containers full of liquor on one's person so one can imbibe when one sees fit
as well as the act of kicking back with ones feet up while drinking fine dwarven liquor both belong on the TOP TEN list of most dwarfy
things in the universe.

So, is there any way to allow either of these acts to occur in my fort?

These guys just dunk their heads straight into the barrel, I'm afraid. The flasks are for letting your military dwarfs carry a drinks, and goblets are just trade fodder.

... that can be turned into more drink. :D

Also, think about it this way: Sure, they can get a pitcher, or a few mugs and carry them back to the group ... or the group can get a few mugs and carry them over to the beer.  And you can sit on beer kegs, and use them as tables.  And they hold beer!  At least, thats my understanding of the dwarven-liquor-logic involved.  :o  :P

The fact that my .25 fort has beer pots has grown the term "on the pot" as slang for "drinking".

You could put a drink only food storage area in the dining room.
That's the best thing you can do unfortunately.

Or you could draft everyone and they'd carry a flask with them everywhere..

I believe Imiknorris' suggestion is also significantly more efficient, as there is no need to return to the drink stockpile immediately when working a long distance from such a stockpile, as in the case of miners or woodcutters.

Yeah, but they're still going to decide that their flask/backpack needs to be refilled when they are as far from your drink/food stockpile as is physically possible.

Which is still better than them deciding to drink, as flasks are filled more or less instantaneously.

Backpacks will cause problems with any dwarf who is a miner, woodcutter, or hunter. For that reason I avoid them and their quirks entirely, and stick with having dwarves eat in the dining room.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

I was going to say there's far dwarfier things than carrying a lame flask, but then I saw the OP was Poindexterity and decided to keep my mouth shut.

Toady talked about this in the last DF Talk (#12).  Basically, it's on the to-do list for inns/taverns, but no definite plans on how it will be implemented.

I saw the subject for this thread and immediately thought of the line "Gentlemen! You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!"
