The WASD keyboard scheme. Seriously, once games started using it, it made playing 100% more enjoyable for me. The arrowkeys are just too close to the mouse, and it jsut feels weird controlilng movement with your right hand if you want to use any other part of the keyboard.

Has anyone mentioned automap yet? Anyone remember those old games where the games included a graph paper so you could draw your own maps?

Also, tutorials, beats reading through a 40 page manual to find out how to move around.

For browser games (especially Cyber Nations), multitabbing and player made web tools and calculators.

Now I just wish RPGs would have an auto-grind button so I could play them Progress Quest style.

Complete control remapping. Although it's happening less now, there were many otherwise excellent games that were severely spoiled by fixed, sometimes nonsensical, key configurations.

Also manuals. Complete manuals. That actually cover all actions in the game.

Stardust reverie.

And for games with insane grinding, Cheat Engine.
