   ~    - rotten water
   ~      cavern floor

did my drunken dwarfs spilled some on the floor? i wonder what would happen to booze

I found this several times when a medic decided he was going to not deliver carried water. The water rots in the open and later the bucket is removed by someone.

Rot is a horrible word, and you can't recover the object anyway, so it shouldn't bother telling you.  Then it should evaporate and leave you alone.

well.. i had these multi door/trap sandwiches near the river.. there was a flood and some water went through a couple of doors and got trapped at the traps bit... after a while they became rotten water

"Stagnant" is what you'd call water like that, which by the way probably shouldn't evaporate easily underground.  I could see stagnant water putting out a miasma, or at least spawning mosquitos.
