Starts out describing, in vivid detail, describing, in vivid detail, a Demon, encased in osidian, as he comes back to life and escapes. seems rather dwarfy, but a bit cliched, especially the description. very generic sounding demon. Sanderson, I am disappoint.
"And now for out feature presentation"
Oh, phew. I was worried there.
Right, book starts out with describing how random people in this country are being chosen, every so often, to be transformed into some kind of super-being, immortal, good looking, regenerate wounds quickly, the whole deal. oops, that ended 10 years ago.
now we got a prince here. nice guy, just got up, feeling really hungry. first person who sees him screams in terror and runs away. turns out he's been 'chosen' and now he's a zombie. he's dumped into what used to be the blessed city, and left to rot. funeral services are held, he's written off as dead.
Now the prince is locked in the cursed city, and soon finds out that there's no food there, and he will live in there, forever. stub your toe? too bad, you're gonna be stuck with it... forever. only way to die is by being burned 'alive', if you can call it that, and even then, there's differing opinions on what happens. well that sucks.
Scene shift!
We are now following a princess, who, by the way, has a voice actress I don't like. far too hauty-tauty. Anyways, she was supposed to marry the prince, and she was already engaged.
Oh, by the way, there's a clause in the marriage saying that if one party dies, you're automatically legally married.
so now she'd a widow. shame, really, he seemed like a nice guy. not often you get that in political marriages.
At least the king should be okay, right?
The king is a sexist prick, and sends her off to "go knit or whatever it is that you women do"
Also, he's rather not really upset at all about his son's recent death.
And the Queen just babbles incessantly about everything, refusing to actually get into a conversation, other than making sure the princess wears black in mourning.
Scene Shift!
He is the high Priest of the Imperium. It is his divine calling to bring the light of god to these heathens, for their own good. he has a month to do it, or they will be purged.
That's... all there is to say about him.
