AutoDorfClaim any dining rooms, studies etc. which are defined from a peice of furniture already encompasses by their bedroom.

Also, be able to set a room to a position, not a name. So my Mayor will have a nice Mayor's room, but when he is replaced by another elected Mayor he's auto turfed out, and the new Mayor can claim the room.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

1) no, rooms that share space with other rooms have their value divided by 4, and dorfs already claim the furniture anyway
2) yes

To clarify 1, I mean if it has already been defined. Not auto-make dining rooms from any tables, etc., but automatically claim the dining room if there is one.

Or maybe an option on rooms. Autoclaim yes/no. If yes, any dwarf which needs/wants that particular room will take it, preferably close to any of their other rooms (therefore they'll correctly claim rooms adjacent or overlapping). This should make nobles a bit easier to manage, coupled with 2.

This used to happen to a limited extent when the economy existed - bedrooms were simply put up for rent, and dwarves rented them on their own.

When we get the economy back, we should probably see something more like this happening again.

The suggestion is that if you define a dining room from a table, and the table lies within an already defined bedroom, that the dwarf that owns the bedroom would automatically be assigned to the dining room by default. (Presumably you could still override that setting if you wanted).

It also seems logical that this would work for any built item being defined as a room within the space of an already existing room.

Seems reasonable to me (albeit low priority).

Edit: Although I do wonder, with the move of the game towards defining "spaces" first and then having them get filled with items and furniture, that it might be wasted effort. Not sure how far Toady is going to take that trend.
