I at one point made some metal barrels, I think out of Tin.

After we modded the tiles, I didnt like the look of non-wooden barrels, so I set my metal ones to be melted.

I just noticed that the contents of my metal barrels... is sitting in my smelter - Lye, 7 Dwarven Ale, 18 Dwarven Rum, and 8 Dwarven Rum, on the floor, no tasks assigned to them, plenty of people who could haul said contents, and plenty of empty barrels.

It appears that the contents of a barrel become un-usable when they are dumped out of their container.

Forgot to mention - I have tried to make some potash out of the lye, and get the "no lye" error message when I do.

Its the only Lye I have, and it is not currently task assigned as far as I can tell (not on the jobs list, and there's not [T] next to it on the building list (its "inside" my smelter)

Have you tried destroying the building and see what happens?

Yeah, when the dump the barrels in the building it should just kill the objects, but it won't if it dumps them in buildings (a bug).  If you want to unclutter the building, you'll have to destroy it and make it again.

Yeah, I eventually dismantled the building (it was my initial one, right on my main "road", and once I had a room for the proper one, I took it down), the Lye rotted... not sure what happened to the booze.  

Maybe a dwarf licked it up off the floor.
