Magnetite is a much better source. You'll leave a huge hole in the mountain, but its SO MUCH IRON!

Iron's in blood. Mod in a brewing reaction that leaves iron ore as a waste product.
Iron=Fe
What's in your blood=Fe2+ (or maybe Fe3+)

That's not iron you can use for weapons :)

Sadly enough, having only one cavern will cause your "shallow metal" to be in the magma sea, so I've found.

I have only one cavern and metal at Z-level -2 !

Insert [LAYS_UNUSUAL_EGGS:BAR:NONE:INORGANIC:IRON], into all your cats.  Now they'll claim nest boxes and poop iron bars once a season.

I liked the old system better.

Old system: a little of everything on most embarks

New system: Either an absolute buttload of 1-3 random metals, or absolutely nothing at all.

Hmm I guess with the new system everyone should use site finder: shallow metals: multiple for higher iron chance.
