Losing stone smoothing designation

When I designate a wall to be smoothed or to carve a fortification, often random parts of the wall will lose the designation and I'll need to designate them again (this is in 33b)

I've seen this happen when the dwarf who was about to do the job starts it but then decides to go eat/drink/sleep/etc. before he finishes.  The dwarf leaves and the job gets canceled because it was "done" (but not finished).

Also, you need to check for trapped miners/workers. If someone has been rewalled into a room or stranded during channel digging they will immediately cancel any job they are qualified for because they cant pathfind to the job.

Yeah, I've seen this as well in my dining room.  A few squares out of a hundred just didn't get smoothed.  I don't think it's a pathfinding issue.

I've noticed this as well, though I've been to busy looking at other things to see when they get canceled. World/save generated in 33b, though I'm pretty sure I saw it in 33a as well.

I think it might have something to do with dwarf personalities, lazy/unorganised dwarves might miss a few squares for whatever reason.

I've noticed this as well and I've figured this was the cause. It's really not a big deal since it just means you have to re-order the missed areas again once you notice.

I've also had this happen in the last two versions. It's not really a big deal as it only happens to maybe one tile in a hundred.

I have this too, when carving fortifications. When smoothing or engraving, it doesn't happen (or happens once in a hundred designations and I've missed it). When designating fortifications, this happens for maybe 50% of designations. I'm pretty sure the engraver isn't having pathfinding trouble or deciding to go eat/drink/sleep. Typically, if I designate three fortifications side by side for example, the engraver finishes one and then moves to do another, but the third one has meanwhile disappeared. When I designate it again, the engraver carves it right after finishing the one he's working on. If I've designated more, I have to keep re-designating until the whole bunch is finished as the designations keep disappearing.

Latest version, no mods, happened on two different worlds so far.

I've had it closer to 40% of the tiles. It's a bit of a nuisance to keep going back to the same room to babysit the dwarves to make sure they get it done.

Losing designations for smoothing happened in ye olde 2d version too, IIRC.

It's probably worse if the tiles in question are far away from food, drink, bed, etc, so the dwarves spend most of their time walking rather than working.

I wouldn't say 40%, but it's definitely a lot more than 1 in 100 for me.
