So I watched John Caparulo... (stereotyping)
« on: June 13, 2011, 06:53:12 pm »

He's a pretty cool dude. And watching him, it made me think. He's from Ohio, a state most of us here consider yankee territory. Which is wierd, because John Caparulo is redneck like you wouldn't even believe.

This made me think, how can we make these assumptions about other groups when they act differently right before our eyes?

Take for example Vector's thread. I had taken a conservative religious standpoint, and the consensus was that I think gays are evil. Which is another topic.

This can really be a problem when we take a thing someone said and apply a stereotype to it.

Let's say I'm arguing with someone from new york. They say they support some liberal thing (Take your pick) and I apply all of the liberal stereotypes to this person.

How do you guys think we can overcome this?
