How many others out there are used to playing the no booze game, and if so, what do you do to keep the dwarves happy?

Ironically, elves have booze - the best booze, sunshine, in fact.

Playing as an elf would be without stone, what is pure horrible, and/or without magma, which is blasphemous.

You can always mod out alcohol dependency. Otherwise your dwarves will be way too slow what might be a problem for your military

I always end up in situations where I can't get enough barrels for booze. They are always taken by this or that. I tried jugs, but they didn't work.

So I am used to playing the no booze game.

It's not jugs. It's pots.

Make rock pot at the Craftdwarf's, never use wood for anything other than beds/bins/training spears again.

...that is, unless you want to make waterwheels, axles, and/or siege engines...

I second this. Wood is quite valuable. If it can be made with rocks instead of something else, do so.

Yeah, the thing I like most about the recent versions is rock pots. For somebody playing nanoforts, they're a godsend.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Actually, wood isn't valuable at all... all of it has material value 1, like common stone.

But many players value it for its unique uses. Bins!

Until in come the stone beds, bins and training spears. And windmills, water wheels, siege engines and axels. Suddenly it's quite useless, except for charcoal or ash.

I can't wait for my mayor to mandate a slade windmill in his bedroom.

I use what I got. There are times where I use wood extensively, especially if I am dealing with an aquifer.

Namely, I tend to use wood for beds, bins, barrels, buckets, pipes, corkscrews, mechanics.

I was stating its value in use.

It's worth garbage as a value multiplier.

I love how this thread just got REALLY off topic. Try giving them all mausoleums and grand bed/dining/office rooms and such, even sculptor gardens. engrave any wall/floor you come across. look at their preferences screen, and give them things they enjoy, and take care of anything making them sad.
