Dwarf died from thirst while imprisoned?
« on: February 24, 2008, 03:19:00 pm »

I had a dwarf who was chained (via restraint) for violating a work order. He was, at the time, starving and dehydrated. None of the dwarves brought him food or water. I had another dwarf who was caged in the same room, but he did not die.

I'm experiencing similar troubles with a wounded ranger. He refuses to sleep (he is not falling unconscious from pain, it's just a broken leg) and no seems to be bringing him food or water. No job cancellations or anything. They are just leaving the poor sod to die in his room.

EDIT: Ok, they brought him water. They haven't fed him yet. He hasn't fallen asleep either, despite being "drowsy."

EDIT 2: He was just fed. Great. Healthcare does seem to be working. He just isn't falling asleep. I'll post a topic about this.

Is he listed as No Job or Rest? If it's No Job, he's never going to fall asleep and he's never going to heal. They also tend to not feed or water someone with No Job because they don't know he's injured. I think it's related to falling unconscious while sleeping, not sure if there's a way to fix it though he might randomly just switch back to Rest.

Ah. It does say "No job" That is troublesome. I'll try to destroy the bed he's on. Doubt that will fix it, but it's worth a shot.

EDIT: Aha! That fixed it! A dwarf got the "recover wounded" job and dumped 'im in a barracks bed. The hunter's job switched to "Rest."

Err, sorry for this derailment. Please, continue with your normal topic discourse.

No job for civilians, "Soldier" for military, is the tip-off that they're hurt and not healing.  I find I have to destroy the bed often in that case; basically, you have to get lucky and have the dwarf get rescued while conscious so that he can rest for a bit before giving in to pain again.  After resting enough, the injury will no longer be painful.

I just had a wrestler present three painfully mangled limbs.  One limb turned yellow before he finally gave up and starved (in his wife's arms.  She was ecstatic about this.)
