Animals in Legends

I have noticed that ordinary animals started to appear in Legends. Is that intentional? I have looked at their history, but they are not special, like a cave bat that lives in some cave and does not do anything. Wolves, bats, cougars, stuff like that.

On occasion, a civillization will give a name to an animal in their vicinity, I think.

They are otherwise uninteresting.
