Can't pick up XX wood logs XX
« on: November 20, 2007, 04:40:00 pm »

In .33b, my wood burner dwarves become stuck when trying to pick up wood logs in XX ... XX condition which they need to make ash or charcoal. With undamaged wood they're fine, but when they walk over to pick up damaged logs, they just stand over the same tile doing nothing. This can freeze entire production chains.

You'd think no matter how damaged it is, it'd still burn.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

Update: this is not limited to wood burning and happens with other wood-related tasks. Hauling works because those logs somehow got into my stockpile in the first place.

As a remedy I ordered all the bad wood dumped, which made the working dwarves ignore it, but there comes another problem: nobody gets around to dumping them in a mostly idle fort. They don't even generate dumping jobs (and yes, I have a garbage dump).

You can just forbid them instead. Of course, they'll still take up space in your stockpile, but at least they won't hold up production.
