I fractured my elbow in one arm and the other is badly bruised. The doctors put me on tylenol.     Is there anything over the counter that's stronger?

Pretty much *anything* over the counter is stronger. Tylenol is among the weakest NSAIs. Ibuprofen is stronger and readily avaiable

(disclaimer: this is not a suggestion to buy ibuprofen, but an offhand comment. I am not telling you to buy ibuprofen. If it turns out that you are allergic to it and that's why doctors keep you with tylenol, it's not my fault. I take no responsability for your actions. Yadda yadda can't hear you)

Naproxen is a great choice for such pain, especially if you try ibuprofen and it doesn't work well. The reason they just gave you tylenol is that the broken bone should not be causing you much pain at this point. The bruised arm is much more likely to be causing distress. Ibuprofen and naproxen are excellent anti-inflamatory drugs which means they will help reduce the swelling that puts pressure on nerves in your arm.

Broken bones typically just ache after the initial injury. If you are still having pain, return to the doctor and explain this. Keep in mind that the medical profession has an expression they use amongst themselves........."nobody dies from pain".

Hey, just about two years ago I broke my arm pretty badly. The doctors didn't do a damn thing for me, and I'm looking forward to having a surgery to correct what the doctors should've done the first time.

If you don't think your doctor is doing it right, or is just being lazy, say so or go to a different doctor, because i seriously don't want anybody to have to deal with what i've experienced in a doctor's care.

Ibuprofen is magic stuff.  When I broke my leg it worked perfectly.  Doesn't make you high or anything either.  Just don't do anything stupid and take too much or take it if you're allergic.

Ibuprofen is indeed magic stuff. You can also take up to 800mg every 4 hours for a couple of days without signifigant health risk. This is the post surgery dosage as well as the dosage used most often for soldiers in the army. As long as you are not drinking alcohol or have an allergy you will not have much risk of liver damage. The mild pain that will still be there is important to the process of healing as it lets you know when you are doing something that will slow or prevent proper healing (i.e. trying to chop wood, or lift something too heavy).
