Injured dwarves, massive sieges and lag.
« on: March 23, 2011, 09:19:13 pm »

A short while ago I fought the greatest siege I have ever seen ( Several dozens of goblins mounted on crocos and other damnable animals).

To my surprise, we managed to survive with minimal casualties, even though all of my plans failed horribly. Long story short, not many people died, but many were wounded.

Now I'm stuck with 8 people in the hospital, many with broken bones and several infections, one too injured to do anything that keeps spamming job cancellations, And there's a migrant locked up in jail crying for food and water but that's another story.

Now my questions are :

1. What are some easy ways to prevent infection? I heard soap works but is a terrible choice due to several bugs involving animals. My well water is muddy so that might account for something.

2. How can I get that guy to shut up. Hopefully without killing him. He's pretty good.

And somewhat unrelated but best kept in a single topic :

1.What are some good armor combination for dwarfs? I saw a guy wearing two iron chain mail shirts, but no breastplate. I'm a bit puzzled.

2. My FPS is dropping at the speed of something falling really fast. I barely have 100 dwarfs and a few lions roaming around freely in the fortress. I'd really hate to start this fortress over again due to FPS death.

For armor: Breastplate/mail shirt/leather cloak is a good combo, as it gives maximum protection.

For FPS: Do you have any unburied or unslabbed dead? Also, goblinite and hualing/dumping jobs could be causing lag with pathfinding set to MAXIMUM SPEED.

I'm getting cake.
Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

There ARE ghosts about. Probably 4 or 5. Atom Smashing is nice, but it leaves no body behind and engraving slabs is pretty annoying since I have to manually search for the guy's name.

And there is a lot of hauling going on, with all the spoils of wars scattered around. Dismemberment sucks when it comes to cleaning up. Any way I can optimize FPS with this?
