Not sure whether this is really a bug or not, but it is a bit weird.  I'm playing on a desert map with no outside river, but in winter I still get the messages abut the river freezing and thawing.  Whenever it says the river is frozen, all the sand outside changes in appearance to look exactly like ice, as if the whole outside map is one big frozen river.  The game just calls it "Snow-covered sand", though.

Yeah, there are some issues with this in the current version.  It's all going to be handled in the next one since the tiles are stored differently.
