Either 40d that simply didn't HAVE most of this stuff, or the upcoming .22 that's gonna turn archery and healthcare in blissful resolution.

I can almost 100% guarantee Toady isn't doing anything to fix world gen problems in the next release as I've heard nothing about an impending fix in the dev talk / etc.

What do you mean "didn't have most of this stuff"? What did 40d not have that current versions do, aside from capybaras and oil pressing?

Healthcare
Military screen (it was much simpler but more micromanagey in 40d)
Caverns
Titans and Forgotten Beasts (technically, there are titans, but they're basically bigger giants)
The whole material system
Syndromes, infections, etc.
Sane and linear projectile strikes (arrows in 40d "corkscrewed" around the target's body, able to somehow do stuff like simultaneously remove both of their ears and their pancreas without harming their brain or anything else)
And the list goes on.

I'm playing 31.16., which as far as I know is the only one currently supported by all the major utilities.  That may have changed lately though.  It's missing night creatures, castles, and the new caravan and animal stuff.

Define "major utilities"?  Because .21 is cool with Stonesense, DFHack, and Therapist.

31.18 was the last stable release. The new features still need time to get settled down, so the next stable one will probably 31.22 or 31.23.

I'd add Runesmith and Overseer to that list, though they're probably updated by now.  How stable is 21?  I've heard mixed reports.  Is it worth it?

Main reason I haven't upgraded was because I was waiting for DFhack and Runesmith on 18, but that didn't happen, and the new features in 21 seem to have issues, from what I've heard.

Eh, none of the issues are really big enough to not play because of them.

EDIT: Oh, no! I forgot a period! This is terrible! I'll have to put it in where it belongs, I guess.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

I like doing long term forts. Most of my forts are 30+ years old in game. This means that minor bugs can accumulate over time.
