So, I am running some !!SCIENCE!!, and I need elves. Lots of elves. Like, literally hundreds of elves. How can I go about acquiring these elves? I'd prefer not to have to turn invasions on, because I don't want goblin rubbish messing with my experiments. These have to be controlled experiments, or the results won't be valid. So how can I acquire hundreds of elves without invasion?

Make your entryway to the trade depot be a retracting bridge that opens a couple z-levels down to a field of cage traps. Stunned creatures will get caught, even if they're friendly.

Well.. I have a really crackpot idea on how to approach this. Might not work 100%, but it's worth a try I guess.

Try editing your savegame raws and replacing the goblins entry in creature_standard.txt with the elves entry (while keeping the [CREATURE:GOBLIN] line of course).

Just paste that.

This should transform all goblins into elves physically, although they will still retain their goblin civilization info.

I suppose you could go one step farther and replace the goblin civilization entity files with elven ones, but I'm unsure how that would effect a save game.

Copy-paste the elf entity entry several times, only replace the [ENTITY:FOREST] tag with [ENTITY:FORESTA], [ENTITY:FORESTB], [ENTITY:FORESTC] etc. I don't remember if the game allows multiple civilizations to trade at the same time though.
While you are at it, remove the Goblin and Kobold entries, turn invasions back on and try to piss off as much of these elves as possible. An alternative is to remove the [intelligence] tag from the elf raws make them automatically hostile.

I don't really know yet, due to real life getting in the way, I haven't had much time to play. I haven't been ambushed or anything yet. But, you have to understand, gathering hundreds of Elves is a long process either way.
