Important decision

So I dug into the first cavern and got a nice lil' dwarf village going on under there. I have a big ol' fancy decorated entrance, all kinds of pillairs and statues. There's a Clown Car down below, and upon embark I got noted of a section of cavern falling.

If I sealed myself off, i'd be a true dwarven fortress.

But i'd get no more migrants.
Which means no more people to do useless things like hauling and dorfy fun. Like falling into the underground lake and drowning.

I only have seven dwarves.

Also, there's some giant cave spider silk down there on the first cave layer. I thought giant cave spiders were only on the third layer? Oh Armok, I fear for my dwarves!

A single well enough designed entrance really should remove the need of sealing the fortress completely. I'm not really sure what the appeal of that is anyway, other than making sure no dwarf will decide he's too good to use the same water source as everyone else and dart off to drink from some muddy puddle outside and get killed by an ambush.

Also, hauling is hardly useless - have too few haulers and any slightly larger project involving them will cripple your fortress for months.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.
Ashes are technically fire-safe.

I would wait for 30-35 dwarves to lock your fortress. I have 35 currently, and it runs "fine".
