Infinite willow doors (very weird)
« on: May 04, 2007, 01:49:00 am »

I was playing in adventure mode. I was in a town in an armor store and it was night, but there was something I wanted to buy, so I decided to go to sleep. When I woke up, the shopkeeper still wasn't there, so I decided to Travel out, walk around and come back. I get this message: "You can't travel because you are holding someone elses goods."

I check my inventory and I have a willow door for some reason. I figure I somehow picked up a willow door somewhere by accident or something, so I drop it. After I drop it, it's still in my inventory. Then I drop it again. Now, there are two willow doors on the ground.

Actually, the post title is a bit of a lie, because I could never get more than 2 doors on the ground, although I could always drop a door and there was always one in my inventory. There just wouldn't be more than two on the ground.

So this is really weird. Any ideas?

If only this was a MUD and I just discovered an awesome dupe bug... sadly in a single player game its just not that great... although I wonder if I can sell the willow door an infinite number of times as well. Need to try that.

Would you like a save? I have a copy.

That sort of happened to me once.

I bought a sword from one merchant and just as soon as i get to the armourers shop he leaves for the night.

So i decide to take a nap in his shop. Morning rolls around and the merchants not back yet so i start sneaking circles around the shop.

At that point i realised i had a pine chair in my backpack.... It had the $$ symbols put around buyable items but the guards ignored me so i didnt steal it. Wierd.

I forgot about it for a while longer then used it as an anti kobold shotput untill i mised and sent it flying into the chasm.

Odd.  Something got scrambled somehow.  It's hard to trace this kind of thing, so I'm not really sure how it happened.  This kind of bug tends to come from items with duplicate id numbers, which shouldn't happen but very occasionally does.

Oh, oh! A thought! A good thought!

Can you throw your furniture? I imagine a door or table would do some great throwing damage and you'll be able to throw them to no end!

Crapmountain, the Dark Fortress was destroyed today by an angry adventurer with a payload of wooden doors and one hell of an arm... He was last heard heading to a nearby town screaming "Knock knock!" as if under extreme rage.

I actually have that happen in fortress mode with turtle bits.

Begin with 100+ turtle as your starting goods, then let it last until the start of year 2.
It will all dissapear suddenly, despite it's age.
In the top left corner of the map will be an enormous pile of bones and shells.  No matter what, this pile never goes away (one bone and one shell always remains, which dupes if you clear it)
I drafted the entire fort to make 20-odd some crafter's workshops next to this pile and work ceaselessly.  Thousands of crafts were churned out until the infinite shells decayed.

Just in case this is useful to anyone who doesn't want to lose an adventurer to a crash:

I was able to rescue a PC in adventurer mode from this major crashing bug by destroying the buggy items.  IN this case, I set said items (two pieces of buggy furniture and some buggy meat- in other words, all of the items with the $...$ around the name that display weird behavior) all down next to a tree, set the tree on fire, then went far away and slept for eight hours while it all burned up.  Once this was done, I was able to go to the world map, to save, and eventually to die, thereby salvaging my character and the generated world.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

Would putting the item into a container, then making the container poof by putting it into a container it contains work?

I've just had this bug happen to me. I seem to have infinite lower arms of one guy, and infinite lower bodies of another. I guess ctrl-alt-deleting after dying wasn't such a great idea. Some crazy stuff is happening...

Toady........He did talk about extras. But I do wonder about this, what if you somehow got this bug just instead of doors or tables or body parts you got money. Also thats weird with the turtle shells, how did you come across that anyway?
