Finding shrines and labyrinths
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:22:06 pm »

I've played adventure mode a lot over the years, but especially since the .18 update. I've seen the DF Wiki articles and seen postings on the forum about them, but never in my time playing have I seen any mentions of shrines or labyrinths in Legends mode, the Adventure Mode quest log, the travel map in general. I can generate Megabeast caves and such, but I've never actually found a megabeast. I can also set the titan number, number of megabeast and semimegabeast caves in the world gen advanced parameters, but I can't find anything there about setting the likelihood/number of Shrines and/or Labyrinths. Could anyone help me out with this? Is there a better way to find and create them?

Unless there's a glitch with your world that stops the generation of megabeasts, there is two ways to go about this. First you could rise to the top slowly by killing bandits and night creatures, or if you keep asking someone about the surroundings they should eventually mention the lair of a megabeast. I find that labyrinths and shrines are quite rare no matter what though. (Although watch out if you find a labyrinth, those minotaurs can really mess you up).

Those minotaurs man... They're like Chucknorriotaurs. They'll crush you. I mean, I had a guy who killed countless dragons, demons, and hydras.

I died on the tenth turn on his first attack.

I didn't even hit him.
They're super hard to hit, and they'll do pretty much what they yell that they'll do to you while you're looking for them. JUST STAY AWAY IF YOU VALUE YOUR ADVENTURER.

What I mean is, I had ten turns before he could make his first attack. Meaning either i'm ludicrously fast, he's cripplingly slow, or a combination of both (Which was most likely the case).

Well, I've found that the best way to find Megabeasts now when you can't find any is gain renown, and then ask a civ leader. Eventually, one of their quests will lead you to a megabeast.
