Civilizatoin II. Getting it to run on a new compy.
« on: March 14, 2011, 11:51:47 am »

I have the original disk from Civilization II. It does not seem to want to play on my new Dell.
I think the game might be too old. Is there any way I can still play it?

Thank you.

This is actually kind of tragic. Apparently Civ2's installer is 16-bit, which doesn't work with 64-bit OS's.

I'm not sure if installing it on a different computer, then copying the folder wholesale might work, but the bottom line is it can't install on newer machines at all.

I have heard someone was working on some sort of patch/version that could do it, though, so digging around for that might work. It'd likely be somewhat buggy, however.

Isn't there a freeware version of the game floating around?  Freeciv?

Yeah and at this point with the newer updates and stuff it's almost better than the original Civ II. 'Course you can play with full Civ II rules mode, but there's other modes too.
