Moving magma

So this magma sea is about 96 levels below my fortress. I can't decide how, or whether to, bring it up. Caverns are spaced out pretty far, but I doubt there are too many large open spaces going down 96 levels. 96 seems a bit much more pumps or setting up forges down there, but I haven't tried the piston before, and, like I said, I don't see many large pistonable areas.

Edit: In light of recent GCS noming a stone crafter, I decided to delay my expeditions for a bit. I still wouldn't mind a couple of ideas.

I'd just move the fortress down to the magma sea. But that's just me.

100 pump stack is very doable. It will take a while, but it's not an insane project. Use magma-safe stone blocks and green glass corkscrews/tubes. You can turn useless immigrants into the masons, architects and glassmakers you'll need - Quality won't matter there.

Mine has taken four years to make, but that's without hurrying it up. In fact, I really took my time by emptying the shaft of stone and smoothing it completely to train engravers. I also built only 2-3 pumps at a time although you apparently can set up as many as you have parts for without the ones above getting immediately destroyed even if the pumps beneath aren't done yet.

So you could speed that up a lot and be done much sooner.

EDIT: Never mind that. They do sometimes break... I'm not sure what the mechanic there is though, since sometimes it does work like that. Maybe the pumps beneath need to be under active construction are have at least one part installed.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.
