I'm currently playing on a desert map with no trees, and I have no beds at all until the tower caps start to mature.  I just had a dwarf take a beating from the Sheriff.  With no beds, there was no place for her to go rest, so she just went back to work at her workshop, despite occasionally falling unconscious.  That part is fine, but she also entirely stopped eating and drinking (and possibly sleeping as well -- I'm not sure about that), and she ultimately died of thirst.

Not to discount that this may need a tweak, but in my recent experience, I had a TERRIBLE migraine at work. And I mean hallucinatory terrible. (I was probably actually having a stroke. =p)

Anyway, while my head was killing me, had I not a place to lay down, I would have been truly miserable. I think I 'tantrumed' and threw a couple things, as it was. If not for the miracle of modern pain-reducing drugs, I would have had a LONG period of misery, instead of just a few hours. Whiskey don't help, cause when you finally sober up... scary. I had a hard time REMEMBERING to drink water. Sure, I guess I was thirsty, but that was the least of my concerns. So I had to force myself to get water. Food... ugh. Didn't want anything to do with any at that point.

So I guess it is reasonable. *shrugs*

IIRC, lack of sleep does kill your appetite. I may be wrong, but it seems logical.

I had a similar problem.  One of my military dwarves lost both of his eyes in battle, and kept falling unconscious.  Eventually he died of thirst just because his Drink job kept getting interrupted.
