ashes block lava flow
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:17:00 pm »

I dug a channel and aqueducts over the chasm and cave river all the way to the outside. Then I flooded the channel with lava, but noticed that I need to make some adjustments, so I shut the floodgates and let the magma drain.
After a while I tried to flood the channel again, but the lava flow stopped at the 'muddy ash' tile, just before the river aqueduct.

There are two channels, the upper one and the lower one. The upper one stopped before the aqueduct, then after a few seasons went over it, but stopped again on another muddy ashes tile. The lower one just stays stuck before the aqueduct, even though the muddy ashes dried out and are now 'ashes'.

No idea what is this about...something to do with seasonal flooding, but I have no idea where the ashes came from, since none of the objects lying on top of the channel prior to flooding got burned, even the pig tail clothes.

I have noticed this a couple of times and found it very annoying.

The way I handle it is to make the channel 2 spaces wide - that way when I need lava it will not be stuck on one spot.  I can then close it off at leisure to fix it.

So that's actually a map change -- the only channel there is in abstract building form.  The actual map tile channel is gone.  I think this happens as the result of a bush, tree or sapling (or towercap) getting caught in the lava, perhaps?  I don't quite recall.  It has been reported before.

I've seen it happen to map-channels before (getting Ash-ed), and I've never seen a towercap on a chanel tile.

Once I even had the ashes disapear (may have never been?) and had a hole in my chanel (the same section of it on both sides).  Was very bizare.
