There's Primer and the already mentioned A Scanner Darkly.

I'd say Eternal Sunshine was a scifi movie. How about Inception? That was okay. And I haven't seen The Road, but isn't that usually considered to be scifi?

There are probably more, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

I'd add Children of Men to that list. Maybe District 9 too.
But anyhow, Moon certainly is a very good film. Sam Rockwell should have received at least an oscar nomination, if you ask me.

Moon I've never seen, people kept mentioning it but I never got around to it. I assumed it was the usual modern tripe which has some good ideas, extremely poorly executed and with focus on special effects. Maybe I was wrong to be lukewarm about moon!

If those are your typical complaints about modern sci-fi? Prepare to be kicking yourself repeatedly for overlooking moon. I was tempted to say that Moon is the only real science fiction movie produced in the last 10 years. I certainly have seen no real peers to it in that time.

I thought Minority Report was pretty good as well, though as always YMMV because I'm not an avid film freak.

Children of men was definitely good, and loosely qualifies as sci fi.

District 9 was ok, it attempted a bit of the themse of sci fi, but didn't really capture the spirit.

Moon is sci fi in its purest distilled form. Its way, way up there among the best sci fi of all time like 2001.

I also suggest Book of Eli, it had flaws but was a pretty good post apocalyptic movie.

I don't care what genres you think you like.  Everyone should see Mind Game.  It's an experience.

Also someone mentioned Kick Ass.  That movie is fun, but I implore you to read the comic as well.  They are very very different.  The comic is done more intelligently with more believable characters (even Hit Girl in many respects), better faithfulness to its central themes, and a very bittersweet ending as opposed to the uplifting hollywood-style total victory ending of the movie.

You know what happened to the guy who told me I should read the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, on the basis tha they were 'very, very different', and 'done more intelligently with more believable characters', even 'better faithfulness to its central themes'? That guy that made me spend to much time and an amount of money tracking down the novels and ordering them, then I had to spend a weekend that I could have used to get some work done reading them?

I ended up shouting him a few drinks. Pilgrim novels were awesome! Didn't know that Kickass was also from a graphic novel, so I will have to hunt that down. Thanks for the heads up.

They're currently working on a second run, too.  The first issue has been out for a while.  I'm waiting for them to finish the series before I read it.  Cannot fucking wait!  I'm not a major comics buff, but I think Kick-ass is my favorite of all the ones I've read.

No.  It does better.  Seriously.

For zombies look no further than The Walking Dead.  I've even colored the first two pages of the first issue
