If they're added to DF they should either be an early-game weapon made at the woodcrafters, for before you get your metalworks up and running, or a threshing tool needed to do threshing jobs (like the axe or pick for woodcutting and mining) which can be carried into battle when needed.

I'm in favor of more weapons that are also tools.

In fact, I'd even take it even further and in addition to real tool derived weapons like the battle-axe, flail, and war hammer, I'd also add in famous fictional tool/weapons like the Omniwrench 6000 from Ratchet & Clank, the Drill Lance from Knightfall, or the Phillips Head Death-Driver from Aqua-Teen Hunger-Force

One big problem with weapons now is that they still aren't very differentiated in some important ways. The game cannot really handle flexible weapons, for instance; whips act extremely strange, and a flail's unique characteristics are difficult to represent.

Heck the game can't even handle blunt weapons.

Can you elaborate?

Blunt works a bit oddly right now.

For example Bullets cannot penetrate the skin because technically they are blunt projectiles.

Mangling, dusting, and gooing is also relatively weak and blunt force trauma is often underpowered especially when it comes to harming soft tissues without hard tissues. Oddly enough chipped bones are more painful then dusted bones. Shards of bones rarely cause complications unless physically driven into organs and organs are relatively safe from even the strongest blunt force trauma. Plus bones even after turning into dust are perfectly capable of defending organs from further attacks (good thing too... if you dusted a skull and it couldn't be further dusted... you would never be able to kill some creatures with blunt force)

Hense why I call blunt attacks "Magic Pixie blasts", since they act more like magic blasts.

Yeah, a lot of that is pretty fair to say. Blunt attacks should certainly be able to pierce skin if appropriate (a unification of blunt and edged attack types might even be useful there), and the effects of broken bones seem... not very important when it comes to bleeding and serious pain. There are a lot of issues with injuries in general. And with the combat system.
