Hello everyone. I'm currently working on a mod I'm calling AfterWorld.
Basically the premise is that humanity has been nearly wiped out due to something loosely referred to as 'the great war'. Only three factions of humans have survived.
Cyborgs, a group of religious nuts who tout the advancement of humanity through assimilation with machinery. They live like savages, hunting down what little remains of humanity. The borging process is a nightmarishly painful procedure, many don't survive. The cyborgs themselves still have squishy parts, but they are assisted by their 'hunter dogs', mechanical beasts, red dots glare out of dark pitted eyes, the dogs have no mercy, and are known to rip captured humans apart one limb at a time.
The Old Corporations, a conglomerate of various corporations that survived the war, they build massive complexes with high walls, plumes of smoke are consistantly billowing out of them. Even though civilization was wiped out, they continue mining the earth and industrializing everything. They are led by a group of shady individuals called 'the council', who overwatch everything inside their complexes, nothing escapes their eyes. They are slave drivers, working people to near death, but it's either that or being outside, hunted.
The humans. These would be your good guys. They build settlements hidden in the hills, grouping up to defend themselves. They hold on to the morals and ethics of previous societies. They are going to be the main playable race.
Creatures of the Underdark. Fourth faction. No one knows why they're here or why they chose now, but we do know that there are an increasing number of their fortresses sprouting up all over the world. Some say they are here to destroy us, others say they were pushed out of the caverns by an even darker force. Either way, the truth is far from recoverable, they keep no contact with the outside world, refusing to let anyone even come close to their towers.
RACES:
- The Humans (playable)('the good guys')
Ideas for humans: Refugees in a post apocalyptic world. Making small settlements, attempting to group up and defend themselves.
- Creatures from the UnderDark ('the unknown')
Ideas: This is a race of humanoid creatures who have only recently risen from their natural homes in the underdark cavern systems, no one knows what their intent is or why they have decided to come up now. We only know that they have an increasing number of topside settlements each day, and they're defenses are incredibly hard to penetrate. They mostly keep to their own, but in the few instances where they have sparked conflict, they left no survivors. Some say they were pushed out of the ground by an even darker force at work, and some say they are here to destroy us all. We do know that they are extremely hostile to outsiders... and along with the heavy prejudice leveled against them, tensions are running high.
- Cyborgs? ('the bad guys')
Ideas: Religious nuts left over from the old world. Claiming the merging of man and machine is the only way to advance further in life. Humans no longer understand the complex workings of cyborg circuitry, but they do know that their squishy parts are still just as squishy as before. Cyborgs are known to hunt down humans and return to their factories holding the human above their head like a trophy. The human is then borged in a nightmarishly painful procedure. Cyborgs will use machines to help them, such as lasor guns, M.U.L.E. trucks, or even their mechanical 'hunter dogs' which are in themselves a legend for their mercilessness.
- Ye Old Corporations... incorperated. ('the assholes')
Ideas: Grouping of various corperations which survived the great war. Run by a mysterious heirarchy of individuals calling themselves the council. They exist soley in a few large complexes, plumes of smoke are consistantly blacking out the sun above them. They are slave drivers, everyone who lives in the complexes are worked to near death, but prefer it to the alternative, being hunted outside. Few ever manage to escape the massive walls around the complexes, and many have been reported arriving at human settlements, still amazed by their first look at the sun. Some people of ye old corp know loopholes in their complexes' security, and leave the walls regularly, bringing a whole wealth of items that they barter off to the still living tribes, calling themselves 'merchants' they are shady individuals who will kick your ass if you try to mess with them... sucka.
ANIMALS:
- Hunter Dogs. Which will be a megabeast? Or come with cyborg seiges?
- M.U.L.E trucks which are used to carry things, basically a wagon renamed. Or maybe a trader specific 1-tile creature?
- The Half Life 2 Striders, the half life 2 hunters, the half life 2 gunships. (possibly controlled by cyborgs?)
- Cows, chickens, pigs, domestic animals from current society, left over from the old world, and released from captivity.
- The need to remove various wild animals from the game, things that would not exist outside of a post apocalyptia. bronze collosus, unicorns, dragons, etc.
- Addition of various creatures left over from the war, like genetically mutated battle ants or something. Could make some good megabeasts like super warrior robots that are 50 feet tall.
- Little birds that have camera's in their eyes, spies sent out by Ye Old Corp. Inc.. (VOICE KEY INCORRECT)
- Borged cows, borged chickens, borged pigs, PETA's worst nightmare.
PLANTS:
- Mechanical grasses that slowly overtake the earth, destroying its natural plantlife. (also redo all grasses in general)
- Plants that grow metals, albiet some of the more useless metals, tin, zinc, brass, etc, no weapon metals. (BALANCING MANDATORY)(SUBTERRANEAN PLANT)
- Trees that are made of metal. (must asses the possibility of this)
- Remove most of the games plants and create more familiar ones, go through and recreate all underground plants, most farming is going to be outdoors.
WORLD:
- Add in new metals, complex alloys that are smelted together by cyborgs and Ye Old Corp. inc.. Use by them for weapons, humans are stuck with more traditional metals. Complex alloys need many different types of metals in order to make, one reason cyborgs will receive the metal producing plant.
- Add in a mineral inside of sedimentary layers, "Fossilized Human remains", basically leftover from mass burials. Also add a mineral to soil layers but the remains aren't as far in the fossilization process. perhaps called "Decomposing Remains".
- Add in a layer of 'stone' that IS ALIVE, (sortof like the eyeball tentacle grasses).
- Leave the gems and most of the geology as it already is. Maybe add in solidified oil pockets, smelt to produce glazes, plasticware, or fuel.
- Also add in a gem, 'massive crystaline structure', it appears in a vein and believed to be sacred by some, but needless to say produces some very useful stone/gems. (uses for this crystal rock is as of yet undetermined, will probably work like rock crystal, but with other uses)(Ye Old Corp could even be said to be hunting these crystaline structures for some unknown purpose)(Would the [DEEP] tag be appropriate for this?)
- Sites will be impossible, I can't actually make Ye Old Corp. inc. live in massive industry complexes, fortresses that dwarves live in will have to do for now. Humans will probably live in towns, and so will cyborgs and Creatures of the Underdark.
- Add in a rock layer that is made of the garbage dumps from the previous era, randomly contains useful minerals.
WEAPONS & ARMOR:
- Remove ALL of the old weapons, picks may be replaced with shovels but the change will only be asthetic.
- Guns, these will be important, unless they start running up and pistol whipping each other like tards.
- Lasor guns, Super awesome, but I don't know what the ammo for these will be... maybe gems and crystals can be turned into ammo for this? (what to call the ammo? "laser packet"? and to think in the game I'll have the option to claim used laser packets, strewn all about after battles XD )
- Lightsabres? Energy swords? Plasma Hammers? Resonating energy spears? ANTIMATTER MACES? (and probably the sleeve sword from assassin's creed too, in lightsabre form of course)
- Replace armors, Flak Vests would be in place of chain mail, not sure how I'll replace some auxilary armors... (arm, leg, guantlet etc.)
- Sheilds could literally be replaced by sheilds. XD (your generic energy sheild from any scifi thing ever)
- BALANCING MANDATORY FOR ALL ABOVE
WORKSHOPS & BUILDINGS:
- New workshops, such as a shop made to produce guns, one made to produce energy based equipment (sheilds), one for circuitry/robotics, etc.
- Can't take any workshops out of the game, but adding ones as their need crops up will work for now.
- obviously... add in custom reactions for the buildings, making a regular gun requires only metal, laser guns need metal alloys, a crystal, and a circuitry board. Shields require circuitry, some kind of crystal or energy source, and metal. very fun.
Tell me what you think.
