Free notetaking/ organizing software
« on: February 25, 2011, 06:53:24 am »

I'm looking for something to keep all my worldbuilding type notes in one place, something that makes it easy for me to build linked pages and the like. I used Microsoft onenote back in highschool, and I think that it would work really well. However, I'm overseas so getting a copy (legally or reliably) is pretty tough. Anyone know anything similar?

I'm not sure about how similar it is to MS Onenote, but Tomboy Notes sounds like it would work well for you: It automatically links to notes with the same name as a typed word/phrase, and can be set to auto-synchronize with Ubuntu One (Ubuntu not required). I'm not sure how well it works in Windows, but Wikipedia claims it does.

I'm not sure about it, but how about google doc? Plus you can keep a copy on line, allowing you to recover it anywhere.

Evernote is good. not the best for linking pages together, though.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I ended up trying a couple of different programs, Evernote and Google Docs didn't work out well because I'm stuck without a continual good internet connection. Tomboy seems just about right for my uses. I've started typing up notes on my setting, creating new blank pages whenever needed. I finished one short note but now have about 20 blank ones that got created offa it . . .
