Light Peek *cough* thunderbolt
« on: February 27, 2011, 09:21:05 am »

So I was listening to the radio yesterday, and heard some tech guru talking about how lightpeek (now changed to the horrible name of thunderbolt). My first impression is that it was stupid in the same way Firewire 800 was stupid - USB is still around because it is so freaking universal, in large part because it was backwards compatible.

But as I looked at it more on wikipedia and apple (who are already promoting it in their macbook pros), I got to wondering. It can be used for a video out? If it is a general-purpose connector that is fast enough with low enough latency to be a display port.

Can USB 3.0 do the same? Is this port going to stay universal enough to actually replace even more ports on my computer? It would be cool to only need one type of universal port on my computer - used for everything.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Royalties.
It stopped firewire, it'll stop this too if Apple is the ones promoting it first.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.
