Bolts In A Reaction
« on: February 20, 2011, 05:50:20 pm »

Anyone know if it's possible to use an entire stack of bolts at once? I've got something in mind that will make .19 a lot less painful.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Yes. A stack gets used up all at one time.

In my experience, anyway.

You see, here's how I think this works:
Overseer: Welcome to the military! You need to wear socks! Dorf: Oh, I should get military socks. My socks are civilian socks. Dorf discards socks Dorf: You know, I need a whole lot of gear now. I should get socks... last. Oh, but these steel boots with the white goo on them are nice!

Good to know. What exactly would the syntax for that be? I've not tried reaction modding before.

I'm not precisely sure what you mean by syntax, but I'd bet this will help.

S'what I used to learn to make reactions.

It's not entirely up to date with the new version, so if there's something that it doesn't cover you might ask if it's possible.

Much obliged. With a bit of luck I should have something to make .19's newly scarce metals less of a problem in a few days.

that guide was last updated in sep 23 of LAST YEAR and afaik it's not possible to use whole stacks in custom reactions at least until .18. .19 have some new tags which I have some hypothesises with uses in stack-related reactions but I've never got around to test them.

I don't even know where to start; my most ambitious mod to date has been bayonets for crossbows. I can throw together something to make fifty arrowheads from one bar of metal without too much trouble, but sticking them on the end of a wooden bolt is another matter.

If that's the specific thing you're trying to do, I could make up a reaction and stuff required for it for you?

If you're making arrowheads specifically, without the shaft, you'd probably need a new item entry, probably a toy, called "arrow shaft" or something of the sort.

Then you'd Set up the reaction to take x arrow shafts and x arrowheads and output x arrows.

Again if you need me to make a reaction for that specifically, I'd be happy to, I'm just giving a barebones example.

Why don't you just cut out the middle man? Have a reagent that requires one log, one metal bar and fuel, and create two stacks of 25 bolts which is fifty bolts (I read somewhere that quivers can only hold 25) Problem solved without all the fusing about.
