Goblin siege/ambushes should be able to come via caverns
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:22:00 pm »

Goblins are underground/tunneler types, right?  IMHO, parts of a siege or ambush should be able to spawn in the caverns (assuming they've been revealed & a path exists into your fortress).  I don't think humans or elves should do this, but I think any underground civ that can siege you should be able to invade from there.

You should die horribly for this. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Actually it would be closer to what happens when kobolds and goblins show up at the same time

Enough with the quote pyramid.  I agree though, I would like to see Goblins invading through the Caverns sometime, dragging squads of Trolls with them and riding cave crawlers.  It might even give the potential for underground world-gen wars.

Yeah, anything to make sieges/ambushes smarter.  One of the goblin squad leaders just hit a cage trap out in the wilderness, the squad is just sitting out there, doing nothing.  I'm pretty sure they're "following" their caged leader, so they're just going to sit out there until I deal with the rest of the siege and then send dwarves out to kill them, when they'd be a lot smarter to join up with the main invasion force, at least.

I'm up for this! Of corse we would need some control to determin if an entity came from below or not. I think the best implmentation of this would be instead of the standard [ACTIVE_SEASON:(season)] tag, we instead got a few more tags that go along these lines...

[SEASON_SEIGE:token]
[SEASON_SEIGE_UNDERGROUND:token]
[SEASON_SNATCH:token]
[SEASON_STEEL:token]
[SEASON_TRADE:token]
[SEASON_DIPLOMACY:token]

Therefor, were we to mod a race, or toady wanted to do more with he's animal men, we could control if and when they attacked, as well as other interactions. Well I realy want this now.

This is perfect.

Just... What's season_steel?
