Has anybody noticed this.
« on: February 21, 2011, 10:20:04 pm »

Alright, one day I was playing dwarf fortress and I got to thinking: these dwarves are a lot like all seven of the Snow White dwarfs. Has anybody noticed that? Think about it.

Probably coincidence.  None of the dwarves are ANYTHING like the snow white ones.  At the same time, only the number seven is in common, and while providing a happy balance is also the same number.  Not worth worrying about.

This seems like an exageration. While I too doubt it is intentional, saying dwarves are nothing like them is sort of silly.

Many dwarves are deliriously ecstatic for fairly silly reasons.
Many dwarves seem to sleep all the friggin' time.
Many dwarves die from mysterious unexplained illnesses.
Many dwarves never, ever socialize because their meeting zones are too big or schedules too demanding.
Many dwarves do things that could be considered idiotic, like walling themselves in to places or refusing to move out of the way of magma gushes.
Many dwarves often get so grumpy as to tantrum.
Many dwarves are doctors.

This CERTAINLY has nothing to do with bit sizes, namely the byte size being 8 and that including numbers from 0-7.  This is most certainly not related to water and magma depths of 7, as it goes from 0 through 7, allowing each square's water/magma count to be recorded on just one byte to save memory space.

Certainly...

The liquid levels, absolutely. The number of starting dwarves almost certainly has nothing to do with the byte size, since it increases within a year.

Sarcasm. How original, and apt to this situation.

I thought it was an obvious subtle reference the moment I started playing DF.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

edit: the number 7 pretty common in various religions and mythologies.
