prepared embark

Ok, I would bet It was wished for before - but as a quick search hasn't revealed it to me...

One simple change in prepare carefully would do me (and I think others too) a great deal of a favour:

Instead of [ESC]abort and start anew to find a suitable/wished for/whatsoever party of 7, it would be really nice to just be able to reroll/recreate the characters.

Just a reroll of characters (be it each one on its own or a all or nothing doesn't matter, just nothing more then to be able to skip that break/reload time up for now (RPG like point distribution, or archetype/kind of starting party (i.e. regular settlers/escaped prisoners/pioneers|pilgrims/adventurers/conquistadores/etc.) - that can be done once the game reached true beta or RC status).

I remember seeing some of these threads before... Let me see what I can dig up using "reroll" as a search term:

Apparently, you're in good company  :P

(What was your search term?  It's often hard to come up with the same terms other people tend to think of.)

This was a much bigger problem back when we had to force-quit the entire game to back out of an embark, so we got a glut of these suggestions back then.  (Did nenjin create the same suggestion twice?)

There's not really much else to be said, other than "please Toady, add a little reroll button", and that at least some people want it, and nobody really has much reason to go against it, so these threads never really go anywhere.

Hopefully, he'll add it, although maybe he feels that having the abort ability is good enough, and doesn't want us "savescumming" our dwarves to be supermen.

Well, Thanks for the links... as said a quick search and I used a mix of words like {embark, "prepared embark", characters, members, attributes, stats, intrinsics, ....} [edit: in fact I never thought about using the phrase "reroll" with the searches]

P.S.: So much for me following Meta-Forum Rule #1: always search.... sigh, the mixture of the right words is the key... I guess thats why they are named key-words... double sigh - sorry!

[Edit: and of course I remember the early DF2010 bug time where it was no abort, but just Task-Manager and shut-down to quicken the procedure ;)
and PPS: I don't wan't them to be superdwarfish [thats what the raw file is for :p], but what I do want is an expedition leader that would't go for unrealistic (or economical breakdown (forbid copper, obsidian, toy, *** or such) mandates  in his time as a mayor]

I know this would make a big difference when using modded races that include castes.  I modded in a race in which one caste was barely intelligent, and having the initial embark party made entirely of them made things unplayable.  My own fault for designing the race that way of course, but I'd still be really happy to see this option included for that reason.

Well, if you make an honest effort to search, nobody will really get mad.  I know I have trouble remembering good terms for things I've read that other people typed.  Often times, in order to find a link to the thread I really wanted, I wind up only finding a different thread that I talked about that original thread in.
