Infection... how does it work?
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:29:55 am »

So my Adventurer got a "tiny curved cut" from a bolt, and now it is infected... Should I have just left the damned thing in?

Since neither resting nor retiring heal this, I am forced to ask: is it dangerous? ie. will it harm my adventurer? I know it eventually will start leaking pus, that can only be removed by drinking it. Does it ever get worse than that? Will rot set in?

as far as i know every infection is deadly. sooner or later youll just die but after i thought of it for a while, i thought that would it be possible to get rid of your hand or finger if it had infection?
just go swim in the river till you see a carp and fight long enough till bites your finger off.
would that stop the infection from spreading?
or is the whole dwarf infected once one body part is infected and you cant get rid of it no matter what you do?

I don't think that single infection will kill you. My adventurer has had the same infected nail for a few in-game years, and is perfectly fine.

... You've been playing the same adventurer for in-game years?! Dear God, you must have amassed an epic kill-list by this point!

It wasn't a finger, it was a chest wound.
And I have max disease recuperation.

Then I guess you will be fine.

You mean the infection will go away? Because this is what I was asking, and most replies seem to point to "no you're boned".

I think infection never goes away unless your infected tissue is removed and the wound is closed.

However you should be able to live pretty long.

You'd think retiring for 3 years would cure the infection or kill him. But no.

Ah, how I long for the days of magical body repair (ie. temporarily turning the adventurer to an amorphous blob and back to fix things), but I'd love to get an adventure mode healthcare system instead.
